Social Workers in Maryland need 40 continuing education units, and LBSWs require 30 CE every 2 years.

  • Category I Activities - 20 CE (15 for LBSW's) of the required CEUs must be earned in this Category.
  • Category II Activities – 20 CE (15 for LBSW's).Online learning including webinars and home-study courses provided by a Board Authorizes Sponsor.
  • Registered Board-approved supervisors are required to complete supervision continuing education by a Board-authorized sponsor. Three (3) hours are required for renewal every two years, and twelve (12) hours are required for first-time supervisory approval.
  • New Category I CE requirement will go into effect beginning with the October 31, 2024 license renewal period. Category I continuing education units shall have anti-oppressive social work practice content focusing on race, culture, or equity, and include one or more of the following topics: Cultural humility; Social justice; Racial equity; Implicit bias; or Anti-racism practices;
