Course Overview:

This comprehensive course is designed for counselors seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge in effectively counseling clients involved with violent intimate partners. Domestic violence and intimate partner violence can have severe psychological, emotional, and physical impacts on individuals and families. As a counselor, it is crucial to be well-equipped to provide sensitive, ethical, and evidence-based support to clients facing such challenging circumstances.


Course Objectives: 

In this course, you will learn to: 

  • Identify signs of violence and abuse in intimate partner relationships.

  • Assess the level of risk and safety concerns for clients involved with violent intimate partners.

  • Develop effective safety plans and coping strategies for clients facing violence in their relationships.

  • Implement appropriate interventions to support clients in leaving or managing violent relationships.

  • Enhance communication skills to facilitate open dialogue with clients about their experiences of violence.

  • Recognize the impact of violence on mental health and employ trauma-informed approaches in counseling.

  • Collaborate with community resources and support networks to provide comprehensive care for clients involved with violent intimate partners.
