3.5 CE Hours - Motivational Interviewing
This text-based course was developed in 2024 for mental health professionals. This course equips mental health professionals with the skills to use Motivational Interviewing techniques, enhancing client engagement, treatment outcomes, and positive behavioral change.

This course is designed to equip mental health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively implement Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques in their practice. MI is a client-centered approach that helps individuals resolve ambivalence and increase their motivation for change. Participants will learn how to apply MI principles and strategies to enhance engagement, improve treatment outcomes, and promote positive behavioral change in clients with various mental health issues.
Course Objectives:
In this course, you will learn to:
Utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) principles and techniques, enabling them to effectively engage and motivate clients towards positive behavioral changes.
Employ MI strategies to foster collaborative, client-centered interactions that promote therapeutic rapport and trust.
Use practical tools and strategies for assessing a client's readiness for change and tailoring MI interventions to individualized stages of change.
Apply MI principles in the context of diverse client populations and clinical settings, adapting their approach to address specific mental health concerns and co-occurring issues.
Develop advanced MI skills, such as reflective listening, open-ended questioning, and affirmation to guide clients towards setting and achieving meaningful treatment goals.
Observe ethical considerations and boundaries associated with MI practice, ensuring they maintain the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality while working with clients.
Evaluate the effectiveness of MI interventions through ongoing assessment and feedback, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and evidence-based practice within mental health settings.

Course completion requirements: To earn CE credit, professionals must purchase the course, read/listen to the presentation, and complete the posttest (with a passing score of 80%) and course evaluation. Posttests may be retaken as many times as you need. Certificates of completion will be emailed immediately after course completion and can be accessed from your account anytime.
This course has been approved by Therapy Trainings™, as a NAADAC Approved Education Provider, for 3.5 CE hours. NAADAC provider #270493. Therapy Trainings™ is responsible for all aspects of its programming.
