This comprehensive course is designed for clinicians working with children and adolescents experiencing Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED). It equips clinicians with systemic tools to assess, engage, and intervene with families as part of a collaborative treatment strategy. Grounded in evidence-based family therapy models, the course emphasizes strengths-based approaches, cultural sensitivity, and multi-generational healing in the context of SED.

Course Objectives: 

In this course, you will learn to: 

  • Apply family systems theory to conceptualize emotional and behavioral challenges in youth with SED;

  • Identify common family patterns that may maintain or exacerbate SED symptoms;

  • Implement evidence-based family therapy techniques in clinical sessions;

  • Foster collaborative relationships with families to support youth recovery and resilience; and 

  • Address intergenerational trauma, systemic stressors, and cultural dynamics in treatment planning.
