Course Overview:

This is a clinician-focused course that prepares mental health professionals to respond effectively to crises involving children and adolescents with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED). Clinicians will learn to work collaboratively with families, schools, and systems of care to support stabilization, prevent hospitalization, and reduce harm. Emphasis is placed on trauma-informed response, real-time intervention, and post-crisis recovery.


Course Objectives: 

In this course, you will learn to: 

  • Identify common crisis triggers and behavioral patterns in youth with SED.
  • Implement de-escalation and stabilization strategies during emotional or behavioral crises.
  • Design collaborative, trauma-informed safety plans for youth and families.
  • Coordinate with crisis teams, schools, and emergency services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Support post-crisis recovery and re-engagement in treatment following acute episodes.
