This text-based course was developed in 2023 for Mental Health Professionals. This course trains counselors to manage anger in clients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders using evidence-based strategies.

This course aims to equip mental health and substance abuse counselors with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively address anger management issues in clients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies and interventions to help clients identify triggers, cope with anger, and develop healthier emotional regulation techniques. The course emphasizes a comprehensive approach to address both the underlying factors contributing to anger and the complex challenges faced by clients dealing with co-occurring disorders.
Course Objectives:
In this course, you will learn to:
understand the link between anger, substance abuse, and mental health disorders;
identify the signs and symptoms of anger management issues in clients with co-occurring disorders;
determine common triggers and stressors that contribute to anger in the clients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders population;
tailor evidence-based anger management techniques and interventions tailored to clients with co;
use therapeutic skills to promote emotional regulation, coping strategies, and communication skills in clients;
utilize the role of family and social support in managing anger and co-occurring disorders;
identify potential challenges and ethical considerations in anger management treatment for clients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders population, and
implement relapse prevention strategies specific to anger and substance use in clients with co-occurring disorders.
