Course Overview:
This course provides licensed professional counselors with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively assess, treat, and manage suicide-related concerns in their practice. Through a comprehensive exploration of suicide assessment, evidence-based treatment approaches, and risk management strategies, counselors will gain the competencies needed to support clients experiencing suicidal ideation. The course emphasizes the importance of ethical considerations, cultural sensitivity, and collaborative interventions to enhance client safety and well-being.
Course Objectives:
In this course, you will learn to:
understand the prevalence, risk factors, and warning signs associated with suicide;
apply systematic and evidence-based approaches to suicide assessment, including risk and protective factors;
establish a supportive and non-judgmental therapeutic environment for clients discussing suicide;
utilize culturally sensitive and ethically sound strategies when working with diverse populations;
implement evidence-based treatment modalities for clients experiencing suicidal ideation;
collaboratively develop safety plans and crisis management strategies to address immediate risk;
identify and address potential barriers to treatment engagement and adherence.
recognize the importance of self-care and professional support when working with suicidal clients;
understand legal and ethical considerations related to suicide assessment, treatment, and management, and
develop risk management strategies to ensure clients' safety and protect professional liability.

Course completion requirements: To earn CE credit, professionals must read the material, pay the continuing education certificate fee and complete the posttest (with a passing score of 80%) and course evaluation.
