Course Overview:
This course on Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) Ethics is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the ethical principles and guidelines that govern the practice of MFTs. It will cover a range of topics, including professional ethics, legal and regulatory frameworks, confidentiality, informed consent, boundaries, dual relationships, and cultural competency. Through lectures, case studies, and group discussions, students will learn to identify and address ethical issues that arise in clinical practice, as well as develop strategies for ethical decision-making and self-care.
Course Objectives:
In this course, you will learn to:
Understand the legal and regulatory frameworks that govern the practice of MFTs, including relevant codes of ethics and laws related to confidentiality, informed consent, and professional conduct.
Develop an awareness of the ethical issues that arise in clinical practice, including dual relationships, boundary violations, and cultural competency.
Learn strategies for ethical decision-making and self-care, including how to recognize and manage ethical dilemmas and conflicts of interest.
Identify and address ethical issues in the context of family therapy, including issues related to confidentiality, informed consent, and working with multiple family members.
Develop skills in communication and collaboration with colleagues and other healthcare professionals, including ways to address ethical issues that arise in interprofessional settings.
Understand the importance of ongoing ethical reflection and the role of self-awareness in ethical decision-making.
Gain a deeper understanding of the cultural and social factors that impact ethical decision-making in MFT practice.

Course completion requirements: To earn CE credit, professionals must purchase the course, read/listen to the presentation, and complete the posttest (with a passing score of 80%) and course evaluation. Posttests may be retaken as many times as you need. Certificates of completion will be emailed immediately after course completion and can be accessed from your account anytime.
