This text-based course was developed in 2024 for mental health professionals. This course will help equip mental health professionals with the knowledge and skills to diagnose, treat, and care for individuals with Alzheimer's and related dementias, improving support and quality of life for patients and their families.

Course Overview:

Alzheimer's disease and other dementias present complex challenges for both individuals and their caregivers. This comprehensive training program is designed specifically for mental health professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Participants will gain a deep understanding of these conditions and learn evidence-based approaches to provide effective support, improve the quality of life for individuals with dementia, and assist their families in navigating this journey.

Course Objectives: 

In this course, you will learn to: 

• Utilize an understanding of the diagnostic criteria and assessment tools used in evaluating individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias to accurately identify and differentiate various forms of cognitive impairment.

• Apply specialized knowledge and evidence-based strategies for the treatment and management of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, including pharmacological interventions, behavioral interventions, and psychosocial support, to enhance the quality of life for both patients and their caregivers.

• Provide compassionate and person-centered care to individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, emphasizing effective communication, ethical considerations, and the promotion of dignity and autonomy in dementia care.
